As the world is taken over by more technology every day more people are neglecting their health. More people are experiencing every day, according to the Institute of Medicine about 100 millions Americas a year suffer from chronic back pain.

Children and adults are practicing bad posture when using devices, some simply lack any physical activity and more commonly many patients forget or neglect proper stretching. It’s important to crack these bad habits early before the body suffers injuries or develops a painful condition.

To better understand where back pain comes from let’s take a look at the body’s anatomy. The spine is made up of 33 bones and tissues from the base of the skull to the pelvis. The spine allows the body to stand, twist, bend and basically support the rest of the body’s structure. These bones are called vertebrae cushioned on either side by shock absorbing cartilage. While there are endless causes of back pain there are two main types, spondylolisthesis that is the disruption of a vertebra. The other is known as cervical radiculopathy that is when the nerves are damaged causing pain to not only the back but also the arms, shoulder and neck. Some conditions may only need some physically therapy, PRP injections, and medications however other injuries may require extensive treatments like invasive surgery. These injuries and conditions can be avoided and precautions can be taken to prevent further issues.

Anyone can experience back pain from a long list of causes. Some of the more common causes include aging, being overweight, heredity, smoking tobacco, and physical strain. Doctors suggest that their patients follow these easy steps in their daily routines to maintain a healthy and strong back, spine, and muscles. Stretching everyday even if you aren’t working out is important to get your body going. Stretching relaxes the muscles and reduces the toxin levels that gather there, ultimately causing less muscle stress and fatigue. Along with stretching patients should be involved in a few hours of physical activity a week, this will also strengthen your muscles so they may stretch further and absorb more shock. By just taking a few moments a day to stretch, run, do yoga or enjoy a game with friends your back could be thanking you for the many pain free years!
